Subtitling – The Audio Visual Text
The main goal of a movie or TV series is to reach an international audience, the media play an important role in the age of globalization and global communications, subtitling and translation have made the world a much smaller place, allowing different peoples, cultures, and languages to interact more frequently.
Subtitling consists of “incorporating a written text in the TL on the screen where an original version of the film is shown”, it’s an audiovisual translation technique that permits the understanding of an oral text in its original text by providing the viewer with a written translation.
In subtitling, the audience hears the original language and written translations appear at the bottom of the screen at the same time, the audience gets to hear the original tone and inflections of the narrator, the text must respect the general rules of language, and pay attention to the use of italics, capital letters, the dash for dialogue and many other conventions.
Sometimes the subtitler has to make adaptations, as in many languages, full translations are longer and can’t fit into a short window of a few seconds, so the subtitler has to make adaptations without changing the key message or compromising on conveying the original meaning.
You may want to ask us some questions now like:
How is the audiovisual translator affected by culture’s verbal and visual features?
How do subtitles, original soundtrack, and image fit together?
If you need answers to those questions, feel free to ask us about it and also about our Subtitling services at The Arabic Voice Over Company.
Our subtitlers are all highly experienced in their field, we work with subtitle translators who are native speakers of the target language. Subtitle files can be supplied in any of the supported formats you may require, your movie/video will look and sound right to all your audiences around the world.
